This was my project for Mamba Day this year. As a huge fan of the late Kobe Bryant, I decided to put together this design which was a dedication to continuing that which is the greatness of his legacy. This would be the next Nike Kobe A.D. if they were to continue the line at some point.
I wanted to go with a mid-top build because I thought this would give his shoes a twist in style and a lot of players still prefer the mid-top shoe although most of Kobe's best silhouette's were low tops. There were a lot of abstractions in this one which is where I really got going with the concept of an Off-White x Nike Kobe shoe. For instance, Have you ever seen the actual Kobe logo executed on the shoe itself? I have never seen this implemented along with the Nike logo on the lateral of the shoe. So that was something that I thought I would throw in there to innovate the graphic design of this shoe. Along with this, the upper is more like a wrap, where the black portion overlays the underlay of yellow. This was also a new and innovative piece that I thought was abstract and different from most shoes today.
The first color way is self-explanatory in that it represents the true language of an "away" colorway for the Los Angeles Lakers. The second colorway was a little more Off-White inspired as it consists of the Lakers purple, yellow and black, but is also offset by royal and cyan blue to give it more of an avant-garde feel from your usual Kobe shoe.
This shoe would be projected to carry on the Kobe line with new aesthetics and the best and most innovative technology available for Nike Kobe consumers.
R.I.P. Kobe Bryant!
